Gas Strut Safety - Read Before Removal or Installation

  • Always independently support the lid, hatch, door or panel before removing or installing a gas strut. Never work beneath a panel supported only by gas struts.
  • Gas struts contain pressurised gas and stored energy. Do not drill, puncture, cut, crush, weld, open or deliberately damage a pressurised gas strut. Follow the manufacturer's disposal instructions.
  • Do not expose gas struts to excessive heat, flame or conditions outside the manufacturer's specified operating limits.
  • Do not install or reuse a strut that is bent, dented, badly corroded, leaking, mechanically modified or otherwise damaged.
  • Avoid scratching, painting, greasing, contaminating or damaging the piston rod.
  • Do not subject the strut to side-loading, bending or misalignment. Existing mounting points and fittings must allow the strut to move freely without binding.
  • Do not exceed the intended stroke or use the strut as a mechanical end stop unless the original application was designed that way.
  • Keep hands and body parts clear of hinges, brackets, pinch points and moving panels during removal and installation.
  • If the existing specifications cannot be positively identified, the replacement does not match, or you are unsure about safe removal or installation, stop and seek professional assistance.
