Everything you need to know about our Extra Long Fridge Slide
The Dunn & Watson extra long fridge slide is perfect for your 4WD Ute tray, camper trailer or caravan tunnel boot. The additional length of this fridge slide means that you can dedicate one side of your Ute tray or tunnel boot for the fridge slide and the other for any other gear that you want to take along with you on your trip.
This means that you could install two fridges one behind the other, one fridge followed by a freezer or even a generator at the back. This double size fridge slide is ideal for maximising the use of space in your vehicle and giving you easy access to your fridge, freezer or other equipment when space is limited in width, but not in length! It’s also ideal for long haul road trips (particularly in remote areas) when you want to stock up on food and drink without needing to stop at the shops too often or where shops are few and far between.
What’s the size of this extra long fridge slide?
The internal size of this extra long fridge slide or the actual space you have available to install your fridge, freezers or other gear is 1325mm in length and 550mm in width. This is the size of the tray, however, the external dimensions and the actual space you need for installation purposes is 1357mm in length and 605mm in width. This extra space that’s required accounts for the fridge slide mechanism and the triggers at the front that allow you to open, close and lock the fridge slide. The smaller dimensions account for only the tray itself.
If you don’t need a really long fridge slide, we have other standard models that might be more suitable for your situation, as follows:
We also have a range of tilt fridge slides and sideways fridge slides. All of these fridge slides can be customised to suit your exact needs, if you can’t find a standard size that’s suitable.
Features of this double sized fridge slide
The Dunn & Watson extra long fridge slide is manufactured in Australia from 3mm aluminium. This makes these fridge slides both lightweight and strong at the same time. They also come with our heavy duty 227kg locking drawer slides as an added safety precaution. This lock in/lock out feature allows you to lock the slide in both the open and closed positions, so that it doesn’t swing open, slam shut or slide back and forth as you are driving along the road. It’s also very useful when you are parked on a slope, as well as when you have young children around who can get their fingers trapped very quickly in the mechanism if it’s not lockable.
We can also customise these fridge slides so that they perfectly suit your requirements. For example, we can alter the length or width, raise the height of the tray by putting it on a box section or lower the height of the tray to fit it into a tight space.

How do I use locking fridge slides?
As mentioned above, this extra long fridge slide comes with a 227kg lock in/lock out feature. This means that it can carry a maximum of 227kg and still lock the slide in the open or closed position. You will see a red trigger at the front of each side of the slider and it’s these triggers that account for the additional length that’s needed when you install the slider. To open the fridge slide you simply depress both triggers at the same time and pull the slider towards you until it opens to its fullest extension where it locks in place.
At this point, the fridge slide won’t move backwards until you depress the triggers again, push backwards and lock it in place when it’s completely closed. It’s important to remember that the lock in/lock out feature only operates at the slider’s fully open or completely closed positions. So if you open the fridge slide but don’t pull it out to its full extension where it locks into place, it can slide open or closed on a slope. Also, someone only needs to nudge the runner and it will either slide forwards or backwards, depending on the slope and angle of the nudge.
A heavy object like a fridge or freezer can cause serious injuries if it suddenly moves backwards or forwards, which is what the lock in/lock out feature was designed to prevent. Given that this extra long fridge slide can carry a lot of weight, the risk of injury is quite high if the lock in/lock out feature is not used correctly. So always make sure that everyone knows how to use it and why it’s an important safety feature.
How do I know the right size fridge slides?
If you only want a fridge slide for your fridge or freezer, even your generator or other heavy gear, then a standard size fridge slide is your first choice. All you need to do is to match the size of your fridge to the fridge slide. For example our 50L and under fridge slide is designed to suit fridges or freezers that have a maximum 50L capacity. If you can’t find one of our standard sizes to fit, then we can quickly customise one to fit.
However, if you have a separate fridge, freezer or generator, instead of buying multiple fridge slides (if you have the space to install them side by side), a better idea is our extra long fridge slide. This is particularly relevant when you have a long narrow space where it’s difficult to find anything stored at the back.
If you are not sure which of our fridge slides is best for your situation, then don’t hesitate to contact us on 1300 210 549 or send us an email.
