Everything you need to know about the Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger
Anyone who loves camping will already know that you need to be able to recharge your batteries on the road. That’s why you need a battery charger and the Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger is one of the best on the market.
This is a fully automatic multi stage, multi input battery charger. Multi stage means that it charges your batteries very quickly and efficiently, and it gives them a full charge. Multi input means that this charger will work from an alternator linked to a battery or from your solar panels via the in-built MPPT solar controller. This means that you can charge your batteries on the road as well as when you’re camping overnight.
This ePOWER battery charger provides a large output charging solution for batteries that are commonly installed in boats, 4WDs, caravans and other recreational or commercial vehicles.
Features of the ePOWER battery charger
The Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger charges all common battery types including Gel, ATM, Flooded and Lithium batteries. It’s designed for charging up to three batteries and the amps can be adjusted up or down to deal with different sizes or types of batteries.
Multistage stage battery charges
When you charge your batteries, the recharging process occurs in multiple stages. The first stage is where the battery is charged at its full rated output current until it reaches its final charging voltage or absorption stage. At this point, the battery is usually 80% full. At the second stage, the charger voltage is held steady while the remaining 20% of the charge is slowly absorbed allowing the current to drop as it reaches its full capacity. The third stage is where the charger transitions from the absorption stage to the float stage. This is where the charger voltage is reduced and held at a constant rate and a safe level.
The Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger gives you the option to operate the charger in two or three stages. Essentially in a two stage charge, after the absorption stage is finished and the battery is full, the charger will switch off. If you select a three stage mode, however, once the battery is full it stays in float mode where the battery voltage is maintained at a set level. This will maintain the battery indefinitely without causing any damage.
Temperature sensor
The temperature sensor allows the charger to compensate for the ambient temperature, which is essential if you are travelling in the hot Aussie summer, particularly up north. This means that for every degree above and below 25C, the charger will adjust the output voltage for the temperature of the environment. This helps to maximise the charge, increase its efficiency and extend the life of your battery.
L setting
A unique feature of the Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger is the L setting, this lets you adjust the point when the charger changes from absorption to float mode. So if there is a load on the battery when the charge is operational, this charger will transition to float mode at the correct setting. You just need to input the common loads like a fridge by dialling in the current (the L setting). For example, if your fridge pulls 5.5 amps when operating, you would input 6 amps as the correct L setting. This means that when the absorption gets down to 6 amps the charger will instantly transition to float mode. The advantage is that the charger doesn’t need to struggle to float due to the ongoing load, it simply transitions at a set point. This feature extends the life of your charger.
Supports multiple loads up to its rated amps
Another feature of this Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger is that when it transitions to float mode it will support any load up to its rating. So this charger will remain in float mode and support a load coming out of your battery up to 40A. This charger can also support up to three batteries on its three channels, bringing the first channel up to float first and then looking to the second and third channels. Situations where this charger is ideal are boaties with port, starboard and house batteries motorhomes where you can maintain your engine’s start battery and the house batteries at the same time. Another advantage is that you can dial the amps up or down within the charger’s rating to maintain different size batteries.
Enerdrive ePOWER Battery Charger – Dual input
This charger operates via two totally independent DC inputs from a running engine or your solar panels. The in-built MPPT (Maximum Power Point) is a solar regular that allows the battery to operate via your solar panels. The process to choose either engine or solar input is fully automatic and both functions are controlled from within the charger itself without the need for external relays. All you need to do is plug the charger into the source and it will maintain your batteries without any worries at all. A dual input charger is ideal for when you’re travelling in the outback or anywhere you can’t plug into the mains power grid. The DC M6 screw terminals also allow for large battery cable connections between all sources.
Fully programmable LCD display
This charger has a fully programmable LCD display. You can easily check which source is charging the battery, as well as the charger status, voltage and amps.
