Everything you need to know about the 50L and under sideways fridge slide

The 50L sideways fridge slide is a heavy duty, ideal solution for camper trailers, ute canopies and four-wheel-drives.

If your vehicle fridge is installed too high in your vehicle for you or your kids to comfortably access, or you can’t fully open the lid of the fridge, the sideways slide will do the trick.

All you need to do is pull the fridge out towards you and then easily pivot it into a downwards tilt. Unlike the regular tilting fridge slides, this configuration offers sideways access to your fridge. This functionality reduces the height whilst still keeping it locked in place. Accessing the contents of your fridge has never been easier.

The length of this slide is 500mm with an internal width of 726mm. The total width, made up of the internal dimension plus the two tilting arms of 35mm on either side is 796mm. Remember to add a further 25mm to the front of the slide to accommodate for the locking features.

We highly recommend you carefully measure your fridge and vehicle space to ensure you order the right sized slide. You need the fridge to fit comfortably in the internal tray, whilst accommodating for the dimensions of the tilting arms and locking mechanism.

Lift assisting gas struts

Fridge slides that only operate horizontally do not need gas struts. When it comes to tilting fridge slides, however, whether they are sideways configured or not, it would be rather difficult to open and close without the assistance of gas struts. Fridges can be heavy, especially when fully loaded. While it’s difficult to picture tilting a loaded fridge down without gas struts, it’s virtually impossible to attempt lifting it back up into a closed position.

All of our gas struts are highly durable and designed for heavy usage. Made from a nitro carbonised shaft and boasting a black carbon coated body, they’ll fit perfectly with your tilting fridge slide.

The tilt slides include 227kg locking drawer slides to keep the slide locked in the fully open or closed position. This safety feature means the slide won’t move back and forth when in use or when driving and potentially injure someone. The locking drawer slides only lock when in the fully open or closed position, so as long as you ensure it is fully extended or fully stored away the mechanism will engage.

The difference between a tilting fridge slide and drop down fridge slide

The difference between the tilting fridge slide and the drop down fridge slide is in the operation rather than the function. Take, for example, the Platinum Drop Down Fridge Slide. It has the same locking feature but without the tilt. Instead, it pulls out horizontally before dropping down 300mm without tilting. This allows access to the fridge at a manageable height. It can be used for applications where the tilting slide or standard pull out fridge slide won’t do the trick. Examples include on top of drawer systems or over false floors.

Both tilting and drop down slides work to provide easy and convenient access to the contents of your fridge, albeit in slightly different ways.

What if my fridge doesn’t fit the tilting slide?

If your fridge doesn’t match these dimensions then you have two options. You can either select another of our tilting fridge slides that matches the size of your fridge (links shown above) or we can custom make a tilt slide that perfectly matches your fridge dimensions. Using the 50L and under sideways tilt slides

Thanks to the gas assisted lift feature, these fridge slides are super easy to use. Simply unlock the front locking trigger by pressing down on them–they’re attached to the front of each drawer slide–and pull the fridge towards you. Once fully extended horizontally, the locking mechanism will click into place. Then you can pivot the fridge downwards safely for access.

Once you’re done, you can just pivot the fridge back into its horizontal position (made easy by the gas assisted struts again) and press the trigger levers to unlock the slides. Then it’s a simple matter of pushing it back inside your vehicle until it’s fully closed and the locking mechanism has re-engaged.
