Everything you need to know about the 80L & over slide and tilt fridge slide
The heavy duty 80L tilting fridge slide is perfect for 4x4s, ute canopies and more. The gas strut assisted slide allows you to access fridges stored at heights too difficult to reach and open fridges that otherwise wouldn’t be able to fit a lifted lid inside the vehicle. This fridge slide is easy to use: simply pull the fridge out and towards you until fully extended which, at that point, can be easily pivoted into a downwards tilt. This reduces the height of the fridge so you can easily access its contents and lock it securely in place.
What sizes are available?
This tilt slide from Dunn and Watson is suitable for fridges with volumes of 80L and over. Our other tilt slides come in the following sizes:
50L and under
60L and over
95L and over
Dimensions
The length of this tilt slide is 955mm from end to end. The width is 579mm internally with an additional 34mm on either side for the tilting arms. This means you’ll need a total width space of 647mm.
You will also need to add 25mm to your length dimensions to accommodate for the locking feature at the front. This brings the total length space you need available to 980mm. The width does not change with the locking feature.
The slide is designed to work well with most fridge brands, such as Engel, Evakool and Waeco. If you’re not confident about which sized tilt slide is right for your application, make sure to give us a call today.
Gas strut assisted lift
When most fridge slides move horizontally only gas struts are not required. The tilting fridge slide would be nearly impossible to operate with the assistance of reliable gas struts. Fully loaded and heavy fridges can be difficult to maneuver and drop. With the gas struts assisting the lift functionality, you can easily slide the fridge in and out of place. The struts themselves are made from a nitro carbonised shaft and black carbon coated body. This means they contrast well with the 80L tilting fridge slides and will be durable for the long term.
80L Tilting Fridge Slide Features
The Dunn and Watson slide is made from incredibly high quality 3mm aluminium. While lightweight, the aluminum offers high strength, durability and corrosion resistance. We use high grade aluminium because it suits all uses and environments, such as camping, off road four-wheel driving and outdoor work.
How does the tilt and slide work?
The slide opens to full extension and then, thanks to the gas strut, is easy to lower to a manageable height for accessing the contents inside. With accompanying 227kg locking drawer slides, even when fully open or completely closed the fridge will stay in place. There’s no risk of the fridge sliding back and forth, and damaging something or hurting someone. When you’re driving and the fridge is closed, the locking mechanism means you can rest assured that it won’t slide out and open. Always remember that the locking features only engage when the slides are completely closed or completely open.

Understanding tilting fridge slides and drop down fridge slides
Tilting fridge slides and drop down fridge slides offer the same benefit but operate differently for different contexts.
Drop down fridge slides, such as our Platinum Drop Down Fridge Slide, have the same locking feature as the tilting fridge slide but without the actual tilt. When the fridge slide pulls out and towards you, it will drop down 300mm in its horizontal position without tilting on an angle. The drop down fridge slide allows you to access your fridge from a usable height and can be installed in applications where the fridge tilting slide doesn’t work. For example, on top of drawer systems or false floors. A standard pull out fridge slide and a tilting fridge slide wouldn’t work in these contexts.
The tilting fridge slide is excellent for scenarios where you’ll want the fridge to tilt once opened and extended out. Either way, both the tilting and drop down fridge slide allows you to access your vehicle fridges easier and better. Your particular situation will determine the best type of fridge slide for you. How to use the 80L tilt slides
The 80L tilt fridge slides are very easy to use with the gas strut assisted lifts. To operate, just unlock the front locking trigger using the attached press-triggers on the front of each drawer slide. Then pull the fridge along the slides towards you. Once it is fully extended, the locking mechanism will engage and you can pivot the fridge downwards.
Putting the fridge back into your vehicle is just as easy. Just pivot the tilted fridge into the horizontal position again using the gas assisted struts. Then press the trigger levers to unlock the slides and put it back into the four-wheel-drive, ute canopy or trailer. Once fully in the closed position, the locking mechanism will click into place again keeping the fridge in place.
In summary, the 80L tilting fridge is made from 3mm high grade aluminium and 227kg lock-in lock-out drawer slides and gas strut assisted lifts. It’s easy to use, access and store away safely. No matter what sort or size fridge you have, our various sized slides and custom fabrication options will help you find the perfect solution! Contact us for more information today.
